Happy Anniversary "PINK SATURDAY"!

Friday, May 28, 2010

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of "PINK SATURDAY"!......Two years ago
Beverly @ How Sweet The Sound, thought it might be fun to make Saturday the day we all would post "pink"! Her reasoning behind it was that by Saturday sometimes subjects for a post are running a bit thin, so if there was a theme, in this case "pink", it would fill that void!

Well Beverly's idea proved to be not only popular, but one that has grown & grown & grown!......She has ladies participating that have since day one,..... and others who have joined somewhere along the way! Pink Saturday was a simple idea that has become somewhat of a phenomena!
I want to take this opportunity to thank Beverly for bringing us all together week after week,... to share the "love of pink" & for us all to become friends!.....

Wishing you all the loveliest of PINK SATURDAYS, my fellow "pink ladies"!.....

"Graduation Day for Our Girls".....

Today I am looking forward to a very unstructured & relaxing weekend....Last weekend it was anything but!..."everything" was going on!......and among all our activities was the graduation of both our daughters, Holly & Mallory from San Diego State University!....Needless to say we were so very proud!......
Both the girls laughed about the length of time they've been in school!.... 4 years turned into a few more when we decided to move our family to upstate New York for a few years. We learned that many college credits earned in Southern California are of no use at schools in the East.....And then there was the move back to So. Cal where once again credits were lost!.....

On top of all that, the arrival of our grandson Andrew, also added a bit more time onto the length of time it took to get a diploma in hand. Holly decided to take a year off Andrew's first year, deciding learning to be a mother, was much more important than art history!....

So between the moving... & lost credits... & a baby being born, also add in a broken shoulder, & a few other incidentals! :) .... Through it all, college studies persevered & both girls accomplished what they had set out to do.....earn their degrees.....
Holly's in Art History & Mallory's in Applied Art.

My husband Ter & I feel so fortunate to have the girls we do.....They have grown into women that we not only love,...but also admire & respect. Congratulations Holly! Congratulations Mallory!......You make us proud!......

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Hello Friends, So sorry for being a bit absent from blogging lately!....It is a busy time for us all, isn't it!.....Last weekend, both our daughters graduated from college....next week is my grandson's last week of kindergarten & then it's time for summertime to begin!...so our household is definitely "buzzing" with activity!

One of the most exciting things for me,is the announcement of my
first "Living Little with Heidi" class!!
...Many of you are receiving my monthly on-line newsletter by the same name. It is filled with my thoughts on decorating, entertaining, gardening, crafting & cooking.... Along with all these delightful topics, my philosophy for the newsletter is "Creating a beautiful life with little money, little time & with little space"!.....which I feel is very relevant for the times we are living in. We all want our homes to be lovely, but sometimes feel we either don't have the time or space or money to do the things we need to. And that's where "Living Little" comes in!..In it I share simple, cost-effective ideas which help us all create the homes & gardens we dream of!

Along with writing the newsletter, I thought it might be fun to offer an actual
"Living Little" class.
My first class will be held here at my home & patio in Poway, California ( just north of San Diego) on Friday evening, July 9th at 7:00pm. My classes are very casual with everyone gathering in various areas of my home, while I share "how-to's", recipes, & ideas. There will be a seasonal dessert served, & each guest will go home with a booklet filled with everything that's covered that evening!..... The cost of the July class will be $45....Below is what I have planned for the first class....If you are interested in coming, or have questions, please e-mail me at "heididevlin@gmail.com"......There is limited space, so reserve your seat now!

A Lovely Pink Saturday to You!.....

Friday, May 21, 2010

I simple adore tall rubber boots,.... "wellies" if you will!....I grew very used to them, while living in rural New York a few years ago. In fact, our first summer was very cool & very, very rainy!....My wellies were unpacked & became my standard footwear!....

Placed by the backdoor, they were a must when running to the barn or working in the garden...& I found myself very appreciative of their lovely height, when getting a bit too near the slippery edge of our frog-filled pond!
My wellies proved to be an all-year staple for me, paired with shorts in summer ( a very chic summer look!) & socks in the winter, my wellies became a dependable friend.

Now back in warm California, my dear "footwear friends" reside in the back of my closet, seldom experiencing the adventures they once had. ....But now & again, I will take my beloved wellies out, & we will dream of knee deep mud puddles.
Maybe someday........

Enjoy your Pink Saturday!...Thank you Beverly at "How Sweet The Sound" for hostessing.....

my new summer obsession......

Saturday, May 15, 2010

My new obsession....."aqua blue glass canning jars"!.....I know they are not a new idea, but for me they are!....& for some reason they are just calling to me!....

* They are asking me to fill them with fresh, strawberry jam.....
*They are begging for floppy purple hydrangea heads straight from the garden.....
*They are saying they are the perfect container for pure white Q-tips & cotton balls.....
& They are suggesting being displayed with a chunky votive candle, in a bed of sand...
( how lovely illuminating the patio)....

So now you know!.....

The hunt has begun.....

& I'll be keeping you posted!

Your obsessed friend, Heidi XO

(P.S. so what is your summer obsession?)

"everyday whites".....

Each day I have been trying to make one area of my home a little prettier.... & a bit more organized. We moved into our house a couple months ago, but being so "crazy busy with work & other odds & ends, I just haven't had the time to "fine-tune" all the corners of our home....but now I'm trying to reserve a few hours each day to "fuss & finesse"!.....And Oh!..I love it!

In the process, I have once again been reminded how very much I love "white"!...Sp crisp, so clean, so classic! And since I favor a color scheme of "colonial blues & soft, dusty browns", it is the perfect addition!....White just adds that uplifting "oompf" that keeps blues & browns from becoming "muddy & a little crappy country"......you know what I mean.

Announcing my "Very Vintage Summer Swap"!....

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Last year at this time, I was hostessing a series of swaps that I entitled, "Very Vintage Swaps". In these swaps I was encouraging the participants to create swap boxes for their partners filled with "vintage- inspired" items. So with Summertime just around the corner, I am most definitely feeling in the mood for a bit of antiquing!....I am wanting to hunt up some "buried treasure" & bring it home and create a few fresh new corners in my house!.....You know how a few charming trinkets can bring all you have back to life!...So with this in mind I've decided to host a
"Very Vintage Summer Swap"!

Now with this swap, I am giving you all a little more time to sign up & a little more time to spend putting together your swap boxes!....I don't want anyone to feel rushed or stressed!...afterall, summer is supposed to be carefree, is it not?

I am asking that each participant fills out a detailed "information sheet" so that their partner can truly fill their box with vintage items that they will indeed love!....With this swap I really want you to go to thrift shops, antique malls & flea markets looking for sweet vintage treasures that will simply delight your partner!....( limit for your swap box w/o postage is $25)

Example:
* If your partner loves old dishes,... try & find her a few lovely "old dessert plates"!....
* If your partner loves gardening,...hunt up a small, antique "watering can" or some "heirloom tomato seeds"!....
* If your partner is into antique jewelry,...choose a pretty flea market "bobble"!...

And with this swap, please don't use items from Big Box" stores or shiny new items!....This should truly be a "Very Vintage Summer Swap"!...

I will allow "handmade" items as well as they are accompanied along with "vintage items" too!

And include a favorite summer recipe!.....

And as always I ask you to wrap & present your box in a beautiful old fashioned way!!!
Example: pretty wrapping papers...lovely ribbons...darling tags & hand-written notes....

I truly think this swap could be a delightful way to begin the summer season!! If you would like to join me, please fill out the information sheet provided & e-mail it to me at heididevlin@gmail.com. And do fill it out!... in detail!

You will have from now till Friday, May 28th to sign up! And please let you friends & fellow bloggers know as well!.....I will e-mail you each a partner on Sunday, May 30th. You will have till June 18th to make up & send off your "Very Vintage Swap Box"! I hope you all will want to join me in this swap!....Afterall, Summer is for antiquing, thrifting & making new friends!!

Your friend, Heidi XO
