A Sunday Dedicated To The Places..."Where Bloggers Create".....

Saturday, August 23, 2008

My "sewing room & office",... one large room upstairs that I share with Holly & Mallory...my two creative daughters....

Today, Brenda at "Brenda's Blog....Snippets Of Me" is hosting.... "Where Bloggers Create". Brenda came up with the idea while she was reading the book, "Where Women Create", by author Jo Packham.....I too have this wonderful book!... & just like Brenda have enjoyed many hours admiring the spaces in which women work, craft & spend their creative moments!...In fact, I liked it so much, I ended up giving it to many of my friends for Christmas a couple years ago!
After being inspired by this book, Brenda thought it might be fun to invite other bloggers to post about the rooms or spaces they call there own. So today that is exactly what we are doing!....Brenda has a list of the participants at her site, with links to all their blogs as well....You might want to visit her today & check out some of their "rooms" ..."I" certainly will be, hoping to pick up a few good ideas I can apply to my own space!.... Hope to see you over at Brenda's blog!.....& enjoy your Sunday!
A "glass front cabinet", where each shelf is assigned a certain craft item...some are filled with "card making" supplies,... some hold little glass jars filled with "snaps, buttons, hooks & eyes", etc....& others house small bottles of "paint, Modge Podge, glue & brushes"!... I love how organized it "can" be, but when we all are crafting at once, those shelves can get mixed up in minutes!!! :)......The "white bookshelves" in the back corner hold all my favorite magazines! ( I am horrible about throwing them out!).....Every issue of "Victoria" which I refer to constantly for inspiration....House Beautiful, Country Living,... both the American & British issues, Country Home & Veranda.
This is the left side of my "desk"....It is actually a cabinet, built right into a little alcove. I propped a HUGE bulletin board across the back, but have continued to pin "clippings of inspiration" on both sides as well!....I LOVE being surrounded by photos, invitations, thank you notes, upcoming events & beautiful things!...It simply makes me happy!...And even though you really cannot tell, the little framed photo is of me & Martha Stewart! Talking about inspiring!!
Some of my "pretty strings".....I love the simplicity & "old-fashioned, humble charm" of "string"!!!.....And a "tiny painting" of red geraniums peeking out from behind.
And I do love a bit of "sparkle"....doesn't everyone!?.....Some of the little glass bottles showing off the lovliest of "beads & sequins".......

Fantastic glass front cabinets, and you are so neat and tidy. Your spaces are great. Thanks for participating in "Where Bloggers Create", I'll be back later to read some of your others posts.

What a wonderful space! I love it! I found you from Brenda via her tour & am so glad I did. I can tell I am going to be spending a lot of time here ---- first thing I'm going to check out is those recipes I see listed on your sidebar! YuM! Patti

Hi Heidi what a wonderful space you have created for yourself and the girls. Sadly, I don't have the luxury of space for myself. I usually sit in my garden room, which is fine in the summer when it is warm, but in the winter is damp and cheerless. Then it is back to the kitchen table! I would love my own hidey hole with the sewing machine plugged in and the ironing board up and ready for use. Enjoy your weekend and I am looking forward to the Halloween swap. Dev X

I love that glass cabinet! What a great space you have! Your desk also looks look a place that's enjoyable to work at. I'm a huge fan of surrounding yourself with whatever makes your heart sing and you seem to have done that!

What a beautiful space you have to create! Thanks for the tour. I loved the sequin jars.

Louise August 24, 2008 at 6:14 AM

What a beautiful space! I love it!

I also love that you create with your daughters. My daughters are little, and we do create together on a small scale, but I look forward to when we all go at it all day!

I just KNEW your place would be organized and yet so "pulled together" as well! I can only dream of having my place look like yours---but I can dream. I love seeing your board of inspiration and special things. That is a common thread I have seen running though our blogs today! I didn't share my craft room today, but if I had--there's a bulletin board above my desk--also full of photos and ideas. Have a great day! dana

You have a lovely place to create in! I love your organised glass cabinets and your desk tucked into an alcove. And you even have a comfy place to read those great magazines! That's one thing I don't have room for. ::Jill

I LOVE your creative space!! So bright and organized - 2 of my own criteria.

I have literally been working on creating mine this past week and hope to post later today.

Did you get my email address okay for the Halloween swap?

Heidi, what a gorgeous place to create in, I love your art table and all of your ingredients so carefully organized in those beautiful cupboards. Your space is glorious, I'll be right over to create something. Your blog is equally as gorgeous. Karen

This is a fabulous room! I especially love that glass front cabinet! I'd join in on the fun but my office is stacked floor to ceiling with stuff from our crawl space from the laundry room flood (as is most of the rest of the house). I'll have to do it at another time! Cindy

Heidi, I always love your creative space. And, I know beautiful things are made there.

And yes, I do need a bit of glitter in my life.

I missed you and Holly yesterday.

Hi Heidi :)

I'm so glad you played along with us. I really wanted to see the place you create in and it certainly isn't dissapointing! LOL I love how everything has a place. The magazine storage cabinet is something I need badly! I get all the same magazines and I have all my old Victorias too :)

I'm going to come back and see this again so I can study it for ideas ;)

hugs,
rue

I am drooling over those glass-fronted cabinets! No dust! I so want a place to put things that won't gather dust, like fabric. Your spaces are beautiful. I adore your bottles of shiny little beads. How cute is that? And so simple to do, but we often fail to do the little things that would give us some sparkle. Thank you so much for participating!

Love your string caddy. I have some various balls of twine and such that I need to find a *place* for.
My craft room is far from finished yet. I'll be posting more about it on my 100th post, so stay tuned, lol... I think I have about 15 or so more to go.

Your bottles filled with bling are great too.
Definitely the perfect room to get crafty in!

Hi, Heidi! Thanks for stopping at my blog, and I'm soooo glad to read yours. I had to sit a bit yesterday during the tour :) Your space, and blog, are beautiful, inspiring. I realize now after the tour that not only am I a desk-aholic, I'm a shelf-aholic. I adore yours with the glass fronts. I'm a granny, too! Two sweeties under 19 months. I'm in love.

Heidi, this is a beautiful, neat and well-organized space!

About the brown transferware you saw in my studio...I used to have lots more but sold it! :-( Now the prices have really gone up! I started my collection in the early 70s when you could get a plate for .50 cents!

Thanks for welcoming me to your studio!

I just love your sewing and craft room, Heidi! As of now, my sewing area is in a corner of my bedroom. However, my dh is fixing to start closing in our 300 square foot garage. Half of it will be my sewing room. I am so excited!!! It probably won't be finished until the spring, but at least I have it to look forward to. My girls will share it with me, like yours do : ) I am going to enjoy looking at everyone's creative spaces, I need ideas!

Heidi your creative space is just perfect. I love that you have your sewing machine by the window and everything is so well organized.

I've peeked through your earlier blogs and was amazed to find someone who is as much a homebody as I am.

Your home is just beautiful and I can't believe you like leopard too.

Hey Heidi!
Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a 'tour' of my little space. (more like stand in one spot and spin around!)
Your space is wonderful! I visited yesterday but I guess I didn't leave a comment. Too many things going on at once - my 'hard drive' (brain)is over loaded and may crash at any time!

Clover Yard August 25, 2008 at 1:42 PM

Hi Heidi, just catching up with your lastest posts and how great they are. Your creative space is amazing! You have inspired me to re-organise my spare bedroom which is my wee corner of creativity (although much of that just goes on in my head!). Thanks for your comment - I'd like to post about my lovely cushion and will explain what some of those words mean to me. Stop by soon!
Love, Carolx
